Who will win this years IPL? In the race are 9 teams, Rajasthan won it in 08, Deccan won it in 09, Chennai won it in 2010 and in 2011 and finally Kolkata won it last time in 2012. That means that 5 teams are looking to win the IPL for the first time this year I’m now going to take you through the positives and negatives of every team.
Chennai Super Kings
Last year Chennai finished luckily 4th after just squeezing through on the last day, they came so close to making it three championships in a row but they lost in the final the Kolkata Knight Riders.Their key batters are MS Dhoni(captain), Vijay, Jadeja, Badrinath, Raina, Bravo, Du Plessis and Hussey. Their key bowlers are Ashwin, Jedeja, Jakati, Morkel and Hilfenhaus, Bollinger and Bravo. The person who scored the most runs for Chennai last season was Suresh Raina with 441 runs, the person who took the most wickets for Chennai last season was Dwayne Bravo. I think that Chennai stand a good chance at winning IPL 6 because they have great players in their squad.
Last year Deccan finished in 8th place, what didn’t help was that Kumar Sangakkara didn’t play 6 games, which for Deccan was a big blow as Sanakkara is world class. On the bowling side, Dale Steyn and Amit Mishra helped them out with Steyn playing 12 and getting 18 wickets and 19 runs, with Mishra playing 14 getting 13 wickets and 16 runs. Last season it was the runs that were the problem scoring 2202 runs that’s an average of 122 runs which isn’t enough for IPL standard, they took 78 wickets last season that’s 4 per game which is ok, maybe they could of done better. The person who took the most wickets last season was Shikhir Dhawan with 569 runs, the person who took the most wickets last season was Dale Steyn taking 18 wickets. I think that Deccan will defiantly have to improve to win IPL 6 because you need to qualify for the playoffs to win the IPL.
Last year Delhi finished finished top of the IPL but they failed to win the playoffs. Virender Sehwag is a great captain, what also helps is that he is a good batter with 495 runs last season. Morne Morkel really helped them by claiming the purple cap(the person who takes the most wickets),also people like Umesh Yadav and Ifran Pathan done well with the ball. Ifran Pathan also done well with the bat earning 176 runs. For me Kevin Pietersen played a vital role for Delhi scoring 305 runs in just 8 games. The person who scored the most runs for Delhi was Virender Sehwag with 495 runs, the person who took the most wickets for Delhi was Morne Morkel with 25 wickets. I think they will have a good chance at winning IPL 6 because they have the ability to win IPL 6.
Kings X1 Punjab
Kings X1 Punjab finished 6th last season which was their second worst finish in IPL history. Their key batters are Adam Gilchrist, Mandeep Singh, Azhar Mahmood, David Hussey ans Shaun Marsh. Their key bowlers are Parvinder Awana, Piyush Chawla, Praveen Kumar, Azhar Mahmood, Dimitri Mascarenhas and Ryan Harris. The person who scored the most runs last season for Kings X1 Punjab was Mandeep Singh with 432 runs, the person who took the most wickets for Kings X1 Punjab was Parvinder Awana. I think that Kings X1 Punjab could be the dark horse in next years competition because they’re not thought of as a big team but have a good squad.
Kolkata Knight Riders
Last season Kolkata Kinght Riders finished second which was their best finish in IPL history. Their key batters are Gautam Gambhir, Manoj Tiwary, Manvinder Bisla, Yusuf Pathan, Brendon McCullum and Jacques Kallis, their key bowlers are Lakshmipathy Balaji, Rajat Bhatia, Brett Lee, Jacques Kallis and Sunil Narine. The person who scored the most runs last season for Kolkata was Gautam Gambhir with 590 runs, the person who took the most wickets for Kolkata last season was Sunil Narine with 24 wickets. I think the reining champions stand a very good chane of winning IPL 6 because they must have a strong team to win the IPL.
Mumbai finished 3rd last season which was their second best position in IPL history. Their key batters are Ambati Rayudu, Dinesh Karthik, Rohit Sharma, Sachin Tendulkar, Dwayne Smith, James Franklin and Kieron Pollard, their key bowlers are Harbhajan Singh, Munaf Patel, Pragyan Ojha, Rudra Pratap Singh, Kieron Pollard and Lasith Malinga. The person who scored the most runs last season for Mumbai was Rohit Sharma with 433 runs, the person who took the most wickets for Mumbai last season was Lasith Malinga with 22 wickets. I think that Mumbai stand a good chance of winning the IPL for the first time because they have a strong team.
Pune Warriors India
Pune Warriors finished 9th last season with was their highest finish in their history of playing in the IPL. Their key batters are Sourav Ganguly, Manish Pandey, Mithun Manhas, Robin Uthappa, Angelo Mathews, Jesse Ryder, Marlon Samuels and Steve Smith, their key bowlers are Ashok Dinda, Ashish Nehra, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Murali Kartik, Rahul Sharma, Alfonso Thomas, Angelo Mathews, Marlon Samuels and Wayne Parnell. The person who scored the most runs for Pune last season was Robin Uthappa scoring 405 runs, the person who took the most wickets for Pune last season was Ashish Nehra taking 11 wickets. I think that Pune Warriors India will need to step up a gear to win IPL 6 as finishing last will not win you a competition.
Rajasthan finished 7th last season which was their worst finish in IPL history. Their key batters are Rahul Dravid, the in form Ajinkya Rahane, Ashok Menaria, Brad Hodge, Owais Shah and Shane Watson, their key bowlers are Amit Singh, Ankeet, Chavan, Pankaj Singh, Siddharth Trivedi, Brad Hogg, Johan Botha, Kevon Cooper, Shane Watson and Shaun Tait. The person who scored the most runs for Rajasthan last season was Ajinkya Rahane with 560 runs, the person who took the most wickets for Rajasthan last season was Siddharth Travedi taking 13 wickets. I think Rajasthan will do next season but like Pune they will have to step it up a gear because there are so good teams in the IPL.
Royal Challengers Bangalore
Royal Challengers Bangalore(RCB) finished 5th last season which was their second worst finish in their history of playing in the IPL. They’re key batters are Mayank Agarwal, Saurabh Tiwary, Virat Kohli, AB de Villers, Chris Gayle and Tillakaratne Dilshan, their key bowlers are Daniel Vettori, Harshal Patel, Zaheer Khan, Vinay Kumar and Muttiah Muralitharan. The person who scored the most runs for Royal Challengers last season was Chris Gayle with 733 runs, the person who took the most wickets last season was Vinay Kumar who took 19 wickets. Even though they didn’t make the playoffs last season I think they will do well next season because the have a strong squad.
